We stayed for 3 nights. We had our dog with us too. Our room was clean and comfortable. It could do with better lighting. Bed was super comfortable. Lovely shower room. Breakfast is excellent, choice and quality. Duty managers were very accommodating. This was our second stay here and we would definitely return.

When we pulled up to the hotel, it was a wow moment, because it is so beautiful. The receptionist was super friendly and helpful. Someone greeted up before we stepped inside, to help us with parking. We enjoyed our drinks, dinner, and breakfast. The room was lovely, spacious, and comfortable, with a nice big bed. The street had cute shops. There is a gas station and large supermarket, at the very end of the street. We very much enjoyed our stay here.

This is a great hotel in the middle of the town and is like a social hub for the locals. I love visiting here

My Aussie 🇦🇺 wife and I decided to spend a couple of nights in Peebles (5-7 July), after driving up that day from the English Midlands, and read that this privately-owned hotel, The Tontine, was a nice place to stay in High Street. We were not disappointed, except for the low water pressure and fluctuating water cool/warm water in our bathroom (# 4).
Nevertheless, from the guy on the Reception Desk to the dining room/bar staff, they were very polite and professional.
Reasonable amount of parking and would recommend entering from the one-way back street given the gate off High Street and the gradient.
Great location and worth a stay at this hotel.

We stayed for 1 night at the Tontine Hotel. The staff are very friendly and hotel is reasonably priced for the area. The hotel could do with a little upgrade as it’s quite dated and requires room repairs, the room was also a little bit dusty. Bed and pillows were extremely comfortable though!! Breakfast was nice & good selection for ordering food items off a menu that is included in the price we paid for the night. Overall a lovely night at the Tontine Hotel, we would still stay again if we were in the area!

A Wonderful Venue with an Exceptional Team.
We used the Tontine for a private party for 15 people — pre-dinner drinks in the beautiful lounge followed by dinner in the stunning Adam Room — and it was simply a brilliant night from start to finish.
The hotel itself is gorgeous. The lounge, with its velvet armchairs, parquet floors and beautiful interiors, set the perfect tone for the evening, and The Adam Room is a truly special dining space — high ceilings, arched windows, chandeliers. It has real character and made the occasion feel properly special.
But what really made the night was the staff. Laura handled all the planning beforehand and was an absolute pleasure to deal with — clear, helpful, proactive communication throughout, and nothing was ever too much trouble. On the night itself, Joe managed everything brilliantly, supported by Ava and the rest of the team. They were warm, professional, attentive and genuinely seemed to want everyone to have a wonderful time. They absolutely delivered on that.
Food and drinks were excellent throughout. We couldn't have asked for more.
If you're planning a private event in Peebles, look no further. The Tontine is a gem of a venue run by a genuinely exceptional team. Highly recommended.

Nice hotel, rooms clean and comfy in nice surroundings. Evening meal and breakfast were both good with varied choice. My only complaint was the bathroom, the toilet paper holder you needed arms like Mr Tickle to reach.

The hotel is in a lovely location, with attractive interiors, good food, and friendly, helpful staff. Unfortunately, the accommodation itself was disappointing.
I can't comment on all of the rooms, but the room I stayed in on the top floor was very small, even for a single occupant. Being located within the roof space, the ceilings were extremely low, which made the room feel cramped and uncomfortable. The furnishings also appeared mismatched and dated, giving the room a somewhat tired appearance. Basic details seemed to have been overlooked too – for example, there was no toilet roll holder in the bathroom.
As the room was on the top floor, the water system appeared to rely on high pressure, resulting in noticeable noise whenever water was being used, which further affected comfort.
At £110 per night, I would have expected a much higher standard of accommodation. While the public areas, food, and service were all very good, the room itself did not offer good value for the price paid.

I came here for a one night solo getaway and it was lovely. I booked over the phone and asked for a room at the back for peace and quiet. The options were a Standard Double and a Classic Double, the latter having been more recently renovated and having a view of the Tweed river. So I opted for the Classic (room 41). I arrived very early, and they looked after my bags while I went for a walk. When I checked into my room it was fresh and spacious and did indeed have a view of the Tweed and park (see pictures - the river is just past the benches, on this side of the big trees). There was shampoo, shower gel and body lotion. Everything was clean and fresh and the bed was very comfortable. Because the hotel is on a hill, my room was actually down 2 flights of stairs. There was a lift going down at least one level, not sure if there is one going down to where I was.
Breakfast was included, and it was in a nice, big, old style room with big windows. The continental breakfast was quite basic, but for the cooked breakfast you could order anything you want - haggis, bacon, back pudding, tatty scones, eggs any style etc.
The hotel is located right on the high street, very close to the X62 bus stop to and from Edinburgh (4 minute walk if that). It has a bar and restaurant and outdoor seating as well as lovely indoor seating. There is a back door that lets you out into the small parking lot and straight into the park and Tweed river bank. The staff were very friendly and accommodating.
Granted, I was there on two of the loveliest days of the year (24 C!!!), but I found Peebles absolutely lovely and would go back there in a snap, and I would stay at the Tontine again.

We had a great couple of nights at the Tontine. As always the service was excellenty with helpful staff. We had dinner there both nights and food was excellent. The breakfasts were also great with everything we could want available. I particularly enjoyed the eggs and smoked salmon.
The only minor fault was with the TV remote the batteries in it were flat, leaking and practically welded to the contacts.

Very central and historical hotel, even the standard rooms are exceptional!
Parking nearby can get very busy, but there is a car park with free parking for 3 hours.

This hotel is very dated and in great need of refurbishment. Our stay was okay despite our room looking tired and quite gloomy. The staff were friendly and attentive.
We had dinner at the hotel but sadly our meals did not meet our expectations. The breakfast, however, was much better.
This hotel has a lot of potential as it's location is perfect for a trip to Peebles. Unfortunately as it stands, it is unlikely that we will return.

Ehrwürdiges Haus, würde bei einer energetischen Sanierung komplett seinen Charme verlieren. Für Leute, die den Standard moderner Häuser erwarten eher nicht geeignet.

Had lunch there today, very disappointed. Placed our lunch order with drinks today. A bit later the waitress came back to take the order again as she had got herself mixed up. Order was taken down on a pad (paper pad) drinks were brought over by another waitress, but mine wasn't on the tray, I did get my drink eventually though. My husband had large fish and chips, fish wasn't very large, it was tasty, but batter was tasteless and chips looked liked they were from a chip shop. I had ordered soup (which was delicious) a Tuna and Spring Onion sandwich. Unfortunately there was no Spring Onion in the sandwich. We did tell the waitress this. It didn't seem overly busy and some of the waitresses weren't as confident as others, but nice all the same. Looking around the restaurant as we were waiting for lunch, the carpet had food on the floor and could have been cleared up. Overall we did not have a good experience.

The Tontine Hotel is simply outstanding. The customer service is as good as it gets where nothing is too much trouble. The food, bars and general comfort is exemplary. We return here often as we know we will be well looked after. 5 star hotel with an economical price. First class again.
