Get out walking and explore the views across the expanse of green fields and heather clad hills surrounding the River Tweed.  With walking routes available for all abilities radiating out from our vibrant Scottish Borders town of Peebles, we are perfectly placed for a relaxing walking break.

Walks Near Peebles

You could try the John Buchan way that stretches 13 miles from Peebles to Broughton, it mainly follows established hill tracks so it’s a great walking route but is not for complete beginners. Finish off your walk by immersing yourself in the history of Peebles with a trip to the John Buchan Centre.

If you’re a history lover try the Peebles Town trail to learn about our town’s rich heritage, it’s the perfect town walk.

For forest walking, you have plenty of options from long strolls to more intensive hikes. Glentress, Cardrona and Cademuir Forests provide some of the best forest walks in the country.

Forest And Hill Running Breaks

If you would prefer to explore the views at a faster pace, perhaps you would enjoy running through the scenic countryside of the Scottish Borders. We are located near the Cardrona Forest Trails and the Glen House Loop, both of which are suitable for reasonably experienced runners.  The paths along the River Tweed are suitable for beginners and novice runners.

At 9:30am each Saturday the HayLodge Parkrun takes place.  This is a free, fun 5k park run for runners of all standards.

The popular Tweed Valley Tunnel Trail Run event takes place on the hills around Peebles every autumn. Stay at the Tontine if you are travelling some distance.

Enjoy running through the picturesque woodlands and countryside, and after a long day, return back to the home comforts of the Tontine Hotel.
