Peebles Agricultural Show – a huge event for the local farming community with one of the largest entries of livestock anywhere in Scotland.
This year the show will be held once again at Nether Horsburgh Farm by Cardrona, with these spacious digs allowing the event to really spread its wings once again.
Covering a huge field in a wonderfully picturesque location, the show will be bigger than ever, with a main ring area hosting a range of entertainment, pens full of every imaginable breed of cattle, sheep and other livestock, around 100 trade stands covering everything from farm machinery to driftwood sculptures, a range of craft and catering marquees, plus a large show jumping area.
And there are alpacas, too – source of beautifully soft wool and quite possibly the most photogenic critters alive (check out the pic!).
Now we can’t claim to be experts on livestock – we just about know one end of a cow from another – but we are always impressed by the array of Champion of Champions from past Peebles Agricultural Shows.
The educational areas are also fantastic, with demonstrations and talks covering all sorts of farming topics, while a show in this neck of the woods wouldn’t be complete without a mountain bike stunt team wowing the crowds.
All great fun – hats off to the Peebles Agricultural Society for regularly putting together one heck of a show. Now if the sun could only make a re-appearance for this years show, then it would be much appreciated …
