RAPT IN WINTER

25th - 26th November 2017

The Rapt in Winter Art Trail is an annual festival of visual arts and crafts created and exhibited by artists, galleries and studios in and around Peebles. More than ten individual makers are exhibiting at the Eastgate Theatre, while most of the other nine venues are displaying the work of more than one artist - making it a great weekend to find original, one-off pieces to suit every taste and pocket

THE MIGHTY DEERSTALKER

3rd March 2018

The Mighty Deerstalker in Innerleithen is the UK's biggest night race and is probably the hardest off-road-Tweed-clad-pipe-lit-plus-four-and-headtorch-wearing run that exists. Prepare to race across rivers, through forests and over a mountain or 2 in the pitch dark of a chilly March night. Once the race is over, it’s time for the infamous Mighty Beerstalker Party in a huge heated tent; with grub, ales, bands and the trademark crowdsurfing ‘til late into the night.

TRAQUAIR MEDIEVAL FAYRE

The Traquair Medieval Fayre is Scotland’s only authentic Medieval Fayre and is an unbeatable mix of medieval entertainment from jousting to jesters in the grounds of Scotland’s Oldest Inhabited House.

TWEEDLOVE FESTIVAL WEEKEND

8th - 10th June 2018

In the true spirit of enduro racing, you can expect to ride and race along with some of the biggest names in the sport. With SI Air timing system again this year, this is the place to come for enduro racing in 2018! Enjoy 'Love Cross' and the 'Tweedlove Multimedia Night' on Friday 8th June. 'Gritopia', 'Go-Bike Family Ride', 'Cyclelaw Scotland Skinny Tweed' & 'Screen on the Green' are all on the 9th June and the 'Whyte British Enduro Championships' and 'Megabike Demo' extend over the weekend.

ST RONAN'S BORDER GAMES

14th to 21st July 2018

Instituted in 1827, The Games are the oldest organised sports meeting in Scotland and are part of a wider ten-day festival with events and fun for all ages.

THE ROYAL EDINBURGH MILITARY TATTOO

3rd to 25th August 2018

Experience one of Scotland's greatest events staged on the Esplanade of Edinburgh Castle. Performers from over 48 countries have taken part in the Tattoo, and around 30 per cent of the 220,000 audience each year are from overseas.

WHYTE KING & QUEEN OF THE HILL

This event has become a classic with a course that makes the most of the massive variety of trail riding locally, with the sweetest descents on the valley’s finest dirt, roots and rock. The title is becoming an important one in Scotland, but the race remains the friendly and good-spirited blast it has always been.

BEYOND BORDERS INTERNATIONAL FESTIVAL OF LITERATURE & THOUGHT

25th & 26th August 2018

This event brings together internationally renowned broadcasters, writers, thinkers, artists, diplomats and politicians to meet, talk and exchange ideas with the public about some of the most interesting and pressing issues of our time. This stimulating weekend of debate also includes bike rides, literary walks, art exhibitions and performances.

BOMBTRACK GRAN FONDURO

29th September 2018

Bombtrack Gran Fonduro gravel ride will be based in the beautiful grounds of historic Traquair House in the Tweed Valley. The event name sums it up – gran fondo meets enduro – with timed stages and a choice of 100km or 60km (approx) loops. A big NEW Tweed Valley backcountry adventure! Riding, racing, eating, drinking and camping…. The race stages aim to celebrate the different kinds of fun to be had with this kind of bike riding. Expect timed singletrack, long forest road climbs, gravel TT and short sharp grinds. This event will venture deep into the Tweed Valley backcountry on some beautiful and undiscovered gravel and forest roads.

TWEED VALLEY TUNNEL TRAIL RUN

20th October 2018

Developed by Hillside Outside, the Tweed Valley Tunnel Trail Run takes runners on an autumnal journey along riverside paths, through gorgeous woodland and out into the hills before diving into the Neidpath Tunnel – a 600m disused railway tunnel, complete with lighting effects and sound system specially installed for the event.

The first Rugby Sevens tournament was played in Melrose in 1883. The game is now played on an global stage and is testimony to its founder in the Scottish Borders town, Ned Haig.

SHAKESPEARE AT TRAQUAIR

Shakespeare at Traquair is a vibrant community-based drama group, which has put on annual open air promenade productions in the stunning grounds of Traquair House since 1995. This year sees a unique promenade performance of Much Ado About Nothing. All performances start at 7.30pm.

Peebles Beltane Festival is a festival of local legend, history and tradition. Beltane is a festival that marks the return of summer with the lighting of fires; where people could burn their winter bedding and floor coverings, ready to be replaced afresh. Referred to as a Gaelic ceremony, this type of festival has been celebrated for thousands of years throughout the United Kingdom and Europe.

HISTORY COMES ALIVE AT TRAQUAIR

A weekend when the past will literally come alive as characters from Traquair’s history re-enact some of the dramatic happenings that took place in this 900 year old castle. As you tour the house and grounds you will come across some Scottish royalty, Jacobite soldiers and priests living in terror. Experience the ups and downs of family life in the 1700s.
