Peebles Outdoor Film Festival 2019

As you will know by now, we love being outdoors as much as possible here at the Tontine – and particularly exploring all the wonderful hills and trails that we are lucky to have right on our doorstep. But we also like celebrating the phenomenal number of inspirational local adventurers, which is why we are delighted to be sponsoring a series of Local Hero sessions at this year’s Peebles Outdoor Film Festival, which gets underway on Fri 25 Jan at the Eastgate Theatre. Have a quick look at this years Festival Trailer Link.

Part of a major festival that also includes a host of big names from further afield, the Local Hero sessions kick off on the opening night with Ride-on-and-on – what promises to be a fascinating presentation by Naomi Freireich, British and European 24hr Mountain Bike Champion, as she traces her journey from non-cyclist to elite athlete and how endurance riding fuels her passion for exploring wild places.

Saturday (26 Jan) then sees an appearance by Jen Crook, Flanked by Haggis the dog, come hear BAFTA-nominated filmmaker, climber and adventurer Jen Crook tell some extraordinary tales!

The final day of the festival (Sun 27 Jan), then sees the last session from local adventurers. It all begins with Jack Harland, Published to wide acclaim in 2018, local author Jack Harland’s Highland Journal is an illustrated memoir of his journey from wide-eyed hill walking novice to competent mountaineer. Join Jack as he shares tales of hair-raising adventures and explains his deep passion for the mountains, geology and natural history of the northwest Highlands. Book signing after.

Look out for these and many more outstanding speakers, not to mention a range of world-class adventure films, over the course of the weekend. We might see you there, too – the Tontine will have a stand as part of a mini expo in the café area of the theatre, so do come and say hello!
